Aetna May 1 Changes  


The following are Aetna small group changes effective May 1, 2010.

Medical Plan Portfolio

The Aetna medical product portfolio for 5/1 consists of the following 34 medical plans:

New plans (8):

  • MC $3500 65/50
  • MC HSA HDHP $2000 80/50
  • MC HRA HDHP $5000 80/50 (Aetna is bringing this plan back!)
  • HMO $50
  • Vitalidad Plus HMO $10/$5
  • Vitalidad Plus HMO $20/$5
  • Vitalidad Plus HMO $30/$10
  • Vitalidad Plus HMO $40/$10

    Plan summaries will be available at the end of March.

Vitalidad Plus California con Aetna is a set of plans that offers providers both inside and outside of CA.  Members pick a PCP in either Mexico or CA and can switch PCPs within that country as many times as they wish, but can only switch to a provider outside the country at open enrollment.  Mexico providers reside in Tijuana, Tecate and Mexicali.  CA providers are in the following counties: LA, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara.  These plans are not available in Imperial County.

  Revised plans (7):

  • EPO $500 80 ($500 deductible added)
  • MC $2500 75/50 ($250 brand name Rx deductible added)
  • AVN HMO $10/$20 (specialist office visit copay increased to $20)
  • AVN HMO $20/$30 (specialist office visit copay increased to $30)
  • AVN HMO $30/$40  (specialist office visit copay increased to $40)
  • AVN HMO $40/$50  (specialist office visit copay increased to $50)
  • HMO Deductible  (Aetna applied a new rate methodology which resulted in very competitive rates for this plan)

Deleted plans (4):

  • HMO HRA $750  -  enrollees will migrate to the HMO $30
  • HMO HRA $1500 $40  -  enrollees will migrate to the HMO $30
  • HMO $15  -  enrollees will migrate to the HMO $20
  • MC BASIC  -  enrollees will migrate to the MC $2,500 75/50

Dental Plan Portfolio

The Freedom of Choice Basic plan is being eliminated and a new Freedom of Choice Coinsurance plan is being introduced.  It has coinsurance cost shares for both PPO and DHMO options.
