Single Payer Fails to Move Out of Senate -- Declared "Dead"

Members' Letters, Calls, Faxes and Emails Help Derail SB 810

CAHU-opposed SB 810, the Universal Single Payer Health Care bill needed move out of the state Senate today in order to meet the constitutional deadline necessary to remain a viable legislative bill.  CAHU is happy to report that Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) did not bring the bill up for a vote today -- which means that SB 810, as a legislative vehicle, is dead.

As CAHU reported last week, two other attempts to pass SB 810 last week failed to garner sufficient votes to move the bill forward.

A big thanks goes to all of the CAHU members that took the time to contact their Senators and urge them them to oppose passage of SB 810.  This is another great illustration that CAHU members working together really make a difference!

URGENT: Rate Regulation -- AB 52 Likely to Be Heard Soon

Please watch your email! CAHU-opposed AB 52 (Feuer), currently pending in the California State Senate will most likely be heard in the next week or two. CAHU continues to be concerned that AB 52 will lead to an arbitrary and politically driven rate approval process and that it does nothing to address or ameliorate the rising costs of health care in California.

Note: CAHU makes every effort to give members plenty of advance notice of legislative hearings but many times we are only notified a few days prior to the bill being scheduled. Your quick action on issues like AB 52 is very much appreciated -- and resulted in the bill being held off for an extended period of time.  We will be sending notices such as these each time we need your help!
